The HAMNET is a large Intranet for Radio Amateurs using the IPv4 class A network 44/8. Mikrotik devices are used at almost every site e.g. for routing purposes, radio links and more. The network interconnects several European countries and will grow further.
This presentation gives an overview how Radio Amateurs setup and maintain such a network and which challenges are met in respect of routing protocols, license conditions, site availability, spectrum management/sharing, end-user access and EMC issues. Moreover the question "Why are Radio Amateurs building such a network?" is answered.
